Overview:
Sem-O™ is an oral, once-daily formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is manufactured by Getz Pharma and is utilized as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. When used for weight management, its application is considered "off-label." Here is a detailed description of how the drug affects body weight
Semaglutide acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist that selectively binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor. It lowers blood sugar through a three-fold mechanism:
-
Insulin Secretion: It stimulates the pancreas to release insulin in a glucose-dependent manner (only when blood sugar levels are high).
-
Glucagon Suppression: It lowers inappropriate glucagon secretion, decreasing the amount of sugar the liver releases into the bloodstream.
-
Gastric Emptying: It subtly delays gastric emptying, slowing down how fast food is digested to prevent sharp, post-meal spikes in blood glucose.

Used For:
1. Type 2 Diabetes Management (Approved Use)
It is officially approved to improve blood sugar (glycemic) control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, alongside diet and exercise. It can be used:
-
On its own (Monotherapy): For patients who cannot take metformin due to intolerance or medical reasons.
-
In combination: Together with other oral diabetes medications or insulin to help reach target blood sugar levels.
2. Weight Loss (Off-Label Use)
Because the active ingredient is semaglutide, it is also frequently prescribed "off-label" by doctors for chronic weight management.
How to use:
The Morning Routine
-
Take first thing upon waking: Take your tablet on a completely empty stomach.
-
Swallow whole: Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
-
Limit your water: Swallow the tablet with a small sip of plain water only—no more than 120 mL (4 ounces). Taking it with too much water, or with coffee, tea, or juice, stops the medicine from being absorbed.
