Overview:

Sem-O™ is an oral, once-daily formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is manufactured by Getz Pharma and is utilized as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. When used for weight management, its application is considered "off-label." Here is a detailed description of how the drug affects body weight

Semaglutide acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist that selectively binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor. It lowers blood sugar through a three-fold mechanism:

  1. Insulin Secretion: It stimulates the pancreas to release insulin in a glucose-dependent manner (only when blood sugar levels are high).

  2. Glucagon Suppression: It lowers inappropriate glucagon secretion, decreasing the amount of sugar the liver releases into the bloodstream.

  3. Gastric Emptying: It subtly delays gastric emptying, slowing down how fast food is digested to prevent sharp, post-meal spikes in blood glucose.

Ingredients:  Semaglutide

Product Type:  tablet

Pack Size:  14s

Company:   Getz Pharma

Used For:

1. Type 2 Diabetes Management (Approved Use)

It is officially approved to improve blood sugar (glycemic) control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, alongside diet and exercise. It can be used:

  • On its own (Monotherapy): For patients who cannot take metformin due to intolerance or medical reasons.

  • In combination: Together with other oral diabetes medications or insulin to help reach target blood sugar levels.

2. Weight Loss (Off-Label Use)

Because the active ingredient is semaglutide, it is also frequently prescribed "off-label" by doctors for chronic weight management.

How to use:

The Morning Routine
  1. Take first thing upon waking: Take your tablet on a completely empty stomach.

  2. Swallow whole: Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.

  3. Limit your water: Swallow the tablet with a small sip of plain water only—no more than 120 mL (4 ounces). Taking it with too much water, or with coffee, tea, or juice, stops the medicine from being absorbed.

  4. Wait 30 minutes: After swallowing the tablet, wait at least 30 minutes before you eat anything, drink other liquids, or take any other oral medications.
